Activities in Nusa Lembongan
SNORKELLING
Snorkelling around Nusa Lembongan is amazing and probably the most popular activity on the island. With its crystal clear water, healthy coral and abundant sea life Nusa Lembongan offers you wonders right at your door steps. Local boatmen and dive shops are willing to take you to various snorkelling spots. Mangrove Point, our preferred underwater garden, has a gentle sloping reef home to branching & table corals, big sponges, nudibranchs, mantis shrimps, cowries, cleaner shrimps & moray eels. Manta Point is the best spot for mantas rays all year round. We can help you with a group trip or a private captain and boat. Snorkelling trip pick up time at the villa depends on the tides. Duration 3 to 4 hours.
SCUBA DIVING
Nusa Lembongan is renown for its world class diving. The most interesting sites are off neighbouring Nusa Penida, minutes by boat from Nusa Lembongan. There are plenty of options for easy flat reef and wall dives or more challenging drift dives as well. Marine highlights include large manta rays all year round, spectacular, massive oceanic sunfish (mola-mola) in season (July-October), white-tipped reef sharks (innocuous), nurse sharks and the odd hammerhead. Whale sharks are far from regular but can be seen. Last but certainly not least, four species of sea turtle can be found here. All operators offer scheduled trips to the prime dive sites around all three islands. We recommend to book your dives ahead during high season (July to October). We can help you with this. Check Tamarind Divers (Villa pick up) or World Diving Lembongan 3 mn walk from the Villa
SUP (Stand-up paddle)
Stand up paddle boarding or “SUP” for short, is one of the fastest growing sports /recreational pastimes in the world and can be enjoyed by everyone. You can “SUP” in the lagoon at high and mid tides. Check Eddi’s Surf for SUP hire
SURFING
Surfers first opened Nusa Lembongan as a tourist destination. The island has long been an established part of the Bali surf circuit. There are three main surf breaks, Playgrounds, Lacerations and Shipwrecks, all located at the top half of the west coast, with another less well known break to the southwest off Nusa Ceningan. You can hire surf boards in many places in the Island. Monkey Surfing offers lessons in English and French.
MANGROVE TOUR
Nature lovers will appreciate this unique and very important piece of ecosystem! Located at the most Northern tip of Nusa Lembongan is an extensive forest of mature mangroves which can be explored in a local “jukung” (outrigger boat), SUP or kayak. On your way to the mangrove stop for a sate with a chilled beer or a fresh coconut juice at Agung Bach Club
VILLAGE TOUR
Book a scooter or an electric buggy and take in some of the amazing sights this charming island has to offer. Visit the village temples, Mushroom Bay, majestic “Dream Beach” and “Devil’s tear”, “Underground house”, seaweed farms and the suspension bridge over to Nusa Ceningan. Then top it all off with the amazing panoramic view over Lembongan Bay. When you visit the sister island Ceningan, we suggest to stop for a drink or lunch at “Le Pirate” to enjoy the beautiful view on the seaweed farms, go to Trevally Beach, and Mahana Point – the Jumping cliff (perfect for sunset) overlooking Secret Point surf break.
YOGA
Where better than serene Lembongan to start or resume your yoga practise? The Yoga Shack is minutes walking from Villa Lotus. They usually offer two sessions per day. Alternatively you can try a yoga session on a stand up paddle board or on suspension with Yoga Serenity. We can also organise your own private yoga teacher at the villa.
FISHING
Local fishermen are always ready to take you with them on their early morning expeditions in the bay. They fish mainly bonites – small tunas – with lines and nets. Get up at 5 am and head down to the beach. Head off of a small narrow fishing boat and watch the glorious sunrise. Share the joy of the fisherman when he empties his net. This is what life is about.
SEAWEED FARMING
The main production of the island used to be seaweed farming. Dried seaweed from Nusa Lembongan are exported to Bali, then Java and then to the US, Japan and Europe. It will be transformed in food additive, thickeners and jelly for the food and cosmetic industry. Seaweed farming is an alternative to improve economic conditions and to reduce fishing pressure. It helps to preserve coral reefs by increasing diversity and provides niches for local species of fish and invertebrates. When you visit Nusa Lembongan try the delicious seaweed salad in one of the ‘warung” (local restaurant)
SPA
